Non-Surgical Methods to Reduce Slouchy Posture

Many everyday aches and pains can be attributed to poor posture. It negatively impacts the nervous system, creating stress on the body that leads to back and neck pain or gait dysfunction. Slouchy posture, or hyperkyphosis, can affect not only physical health, but emotional and mental health as well.

Maintaining good posture is essential for spinal health, nerve connectivity, and eliminating unnecessary physical pain. Chiropractic postural therapy and restoration can help treat issues stemming from hyperkyphosis. Non-surgical avenues involve an initial examination to create a course of action for treatment.

A case study conducted in 2016 examined three different patients exhibiting signs of significant slouchy posture. All were treated with CBP non-surgical corrective rehabilitation methods. The results were attained over a six-month time period along with thirty in-office treatments, as well as simultaneous home care. The outcome of reduction in hyperkyphosis improved patient pain levels and other health measures. In all three of these patients, thoracic mirror image exercises and traction were used to remodel the spinal structures into a more natural and ideal alignment.

This case study concluded that postural thoracic hyperkyphosis deformity is correctable with the non-surgical posture- specific CBP rehabilitation program, which includes a mirror image approach to treatment.

Long-standing postural problems will take longer to address than short-lived ones. It’s important to be aware of your own posture and to consciously correct yourself. With regular practice, the correct posture for standing, sitting, and lying down will gradually help you move toward a better and healthier body position.
