How CBP Doctors Treat Disc Herniation

Chiropractors are continually looking for new ways to treat nerve damage and alleviate pain associated with disc herniation.

In a one-year study, researchers found traditional chiropractic treatments with the addition of a Denneroll device were more effective in treating these conditions, according to a study published in the Archives of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.

Practitioners studied 40 patients—27 male and 13 female—who suffered from discogenic cervical radiculopathy (DCR). The study included 40 patients (27 male and 13 female). DCR affected the patients’ pain severity, disability, peripheral, and/or central nervous system function.

Treatment results were recorded at baseline, 10 weeks, and at a 1-year follow up. While everyone received the same multimodal treatment, one group was selected for the addition of Denneroll cervical traction device treatments.

In the United States, DCR affects 1 in 250 people, with people older than age 40 at the greatest risk. The condition often is associated with functional limitations and persistent disability.

Of DCR cases, 68% are caused by disc herniation and spondylotic changes, the study found. The remaining 22% is caused by herniation and/or degenerative intervertebral disc disorders.

After 10 weeks of treatment, the intervention and control groups both showed improvements for arm pain, neck pain, and latency of dermatomal somatosensory evoked potentials (DDSEP). However, greater improvements were observed in the group that received Denneroll treatments.
